TONIGHT IS

DINE-OUT NIGHT

April’s Dine-out Night is at the Simi Valley Town Center tonight at Soup Plantation AND Corner Bakery.  Don’t forget to take your flyers so money is returned to Vista’s PTA.  If you turn in your receipt to Guest Services at the Town Center, Vista will receive double the benefit, as this will count for SHOP SMART points also.

STEM NIGHT REVIEW

We want to thank everyone for coming out to support our 2nd annual STEM Night last week.  It was a terrific evening for the whole family and our students enjoyed the STEM activities that the teachers planned.  We earned enough money to order several more SMART boards and we appreciate your generous donations.  Thank you to the Technology Committee and staff for planning such a fun event!

YEARBOOK FAREWELL MESSAGES

Parents and Grandparents of existing 5th & 6th Graders: Yearbook Farewell Messages are due THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 25TH. If you are interested in writing a farewell message to your 5th or 6th grader who is leaving Vista this year, please type out your entry of 300 characters or less (which includes punctuation and spacing) and turn it into the office with payment by this Friday.  All entries are $5 (Checks payable to Vista PTA).  Any questions, please contact Krysten Johnson at KJDesign4u@aol.com

SPIRIT STICKS

Attention all Spirit Stick collectors!   We will have two additional opportunities to purchase fun new Spirit Sticks!  Mark your calendars for Friday May 2nd at lunchtime (1st thru 6th graders), and a special Kindergarten sale on Wednesday May 7th at dismissal time!!  Also, you've been asking and we've heard...a second round of MINECRAFT will be available next week!!  If you missed out last time, this is your final opportunity to get these!  Spirit sticks are always available on Wednesday's after school next to the student store!

CALIFORNIA ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT PERFORMANCE AND PROGRESS (CAASPP)

The CAASPP is replacing the STAR tests for students in grades 3-6.  These new digitally formatted exams are aligned to the Common Core State Standards.  SVUSD will administer field tests to students (grades 3-6) from April 7 – May 16.  The field test is a “test of the test” and our students will not be scored on the tests this spring, but will be given an opportunity to see what these new tests are like before the scores count in 2015.  We would encourage your and your student to preview test questions and format which is posted online:  http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sa/practicetest.asp

SHOP SMART PROGRAM AT THE TOWN CENTER

April 30th is the last day to turn in receipts for the SHOP SMART PROGRAM at the Simi Valley Town Center.  Vista is currently in 3rd place.  Don’t forget to turn in your receipts at Guest Services at the mall or the box marked in the Vista MPR.  We appreciate you supporting the program this school year.

VOLUNTEER AND VISITOR CHECK IN

Vista is a closed campus during the day with all perimeter gates locked during the school day. It is essential that all visitors and volunteers sign in and out at the office and wear a badge while on campus. If staff or parents see individuals on campus without a badge, please refer or report them to the office immediately. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our campus secure and making safety a priority.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP -  STUDENT SAFETY MUST COME FIRST

Please make sure that you are considering the safety of your child and other students when you drop off and pick up your children at school.  It is extremely important that we all follow the “rules of the road,” be patient and slow down.  Students should always be released on the passenger side of the car.  Never double park in the street and release your child from the car without being at the curb.  Drivers are NOT to leave their car when in a “Drop Off” zone.  Always yield to students and parents crossing the street.  If necessary, citizens may report unsafe driving to the Simi Valley Police Department with a license number.  Vehicles may be towed if they are blocking neighborhood driveways.
