FAREWELL TO  FRIENDS, STAFF CHANGES AT VISTA,

AND THANK YOUS

This will be our last Update for the current school year.  The staff would like to wish you all a fun-filled, safe summer.   Vista would like to say “Farewell” to those who might be leaving at the end of this school year.  Congratulations and good luck to the 6th graders and some of the 5th graders as they leave for middle school.  We wish you lots of luck if you are leaving and moving to other schools in other grades too!  We are sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Woodhull, Mrs. Gray, Mrs. Graham and Mrs. Sevcik.  We will miss these lovely ladies and appreciate their dedication to educating students at Vista over the years.  We have two experienced teachers coming to Vista in the fall, Mrs. Borisov and Mrs. Wagner.  We know that the Vista community will make them feel very welcome as they become part of the Vista family!  We also appreciate the part that everyone played throughout the school year in creating opportunities for our students to connect through PTA sponsored programs, improved technology, exciting field trips, exceptional classroom experiences, and more!  Vista is an impressive TEAM in which “Together Everyone Achieves More.”  We look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday, August 19, for the first day of school.

NOTE FROM THE PTA

Each year some of our hard working PTA board member volunteers leave Vista and leave a huge hole to fill. We'd like to take a minute to express our most sincere gratitude to Sunny Ahn, Lalanya Klugman, Elsy Nguyen, Nikki Mattison, Peggy Hanessian, and Ron Young.  Thank you for the many hours you each put in to make Vista the exciting place it is for our children to learn and grow!  We will miss each of you!  It has been an exciting and eventful three years with Mrs. Roth!  We will miss her at Vista, but wish her all the best in her new position!  Mrs. Roth, thanks for all you have done to contribute to our Eagle T.E.A.M.!  The benefits from your leadership will be evident for years to come!  Fondly, Vista’s PTA

“SOURING INTO THE FUTURE” – SMART BOARDS FOR ALL CLASSROOMS

We are pleased to announce that with a significant end-of-the-year donation from the PTA and other gift funds, additional SMART boards have been ordered.  EVERY CLASSROOM, Grades K-6, will have a SMART board installed by the BEGINNING OF THE 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR!   We would like to thank all the staff, parents, and community partners who have made this HUGE accomplishment a reality for our Vista students as they “Sour into the Future” with 21st century technology to enhance their learning experience.  We would also like to thank the school district for supporting technology at Vista by providing the computers for the Ronald Reagan Student Resource Center, Crome Books and a cart for CAASPP testing, and new computers for the teachers, which will arrive in the fall.  The next phase of our “Vista 21” Technology Initiative will be to purchase software for the computer lab, provide professional development in the area of technology for our teachers, interactive clickers, and a tablet device for each classroom to increase interactive learning in the classroom setting.

CHANGE IN DISMISSAL NEXT SCHOOL YEAR

Please note that the dismissal time for grades 1-6 will be 2:09 pm for the 2014-2015 school year.  This change is necessary because the SVUSD calendar for next school year has an extra modified day with an early dismissal on Dec. 19, 2014, at the end of 1st semester before winter break.

YEARBOOKS ARE HERE

2014-2015 REFLECTIONS

The Reflections Program is about an opportunity to create original artwork that is inspired by a specific theme and we are glad to announce that the new 2014-2015 Reflections Art Program theme is "The world would be a better place if...".  Stay tuned for more information to come when the new school year starts.

KEEP SAVING

BOX TOPS

Please don’t forget to keep clipping those Box Tops over the summer.  Although our next official collection date will not be until fall, you may turn in any Box Tops you have collected before school is out for the summer.  Thank you for taking the time to clip your Box Tops and help Vista earn money from this valuable program.

VOLUNTEER AND VISITOR CHECK IN

Vista is a closed campus during the day with all perimeter gates locked during the school day. It is essential that all visitors and volunteers sign in and out at the office and wear a badge while on campus. If staff or parents see individuals on campus without a badge, please refer or report them to the office immediately. Please remember that siblings are not allowed on campus during the instructional day. Thank you for your support in keeping our campus secure and making safety a priority.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP -  STUDENT SAFETY MUST COME FIRST

Please make sure that you are considering the safety of your child and other students when you drop off and pick up your children at school.  It is extremely important that we all follow the “rules of the road,” be patient and slow down.  Students should always be released on the passenger side of the car.  Never double park in the street and release your child from the car without being at the curb.  Drivers are NOT to leave their car when in a “Drop Off” zone.  Always yield to students and parents crossing the street.  If necessary, citizens may report unsafe driving to the Simi Valley Police Department with a license number.  Vehicles may be towed if they are blocking neighborhood driveways.
